Reiki Kanji

Universally guided life force energy

The concept of "Reiki" is a popular term in today's metaphysical and esoteric discussion of healing and wellness related phenomena. Due to the general application and popular usage of the term Reiki, we must start with a working definition for the parameters of this course in order for everyone to come from the same understanding.

The first fact we must understand is the term Reiki as related to the healing modality is refers to two related yet distinct entities a specific frequency of energy as well as a systemized application of said energy.

The healing energy frequency we associate with the term Reiki was historically rediscovered through a man named Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist monk of the 19th century. The healing system we commonly associate with the term Reiki originated with Usui and was further developed by his student Chujiro Hayashi and even further by Hayashi's student Ms. Hawayo Takata.

Reiki Hands

Symbolically, Reiki is represented by two Japanese Kanji. The first Kanji "Rei" means "Spirit/Universal/Divine." The second Kanji "Ki" means "Power/Life-Force/Energy". With symbol based languages, context modifies meaning; in this case, combining "Rei" and "Ki" we derive a definition pointing to "spiritually or divinely guided life force energy."

Due to the nature of energetic healing, both patient and practitioner are allowed the freedom from conventional hindrances such as obligatory clinical settings or the necessity of external tools. All energies are conveyed through natural means (physical and semi-physical contact) allowing the body an environment to instinctively realign and balance itself.
